Interview with Geoff Boc and Lauren Anderson about their journey with Boc's rare brain cancer diagnosis.
Young couple Geoff Boc, 33, and Lauren Anderson, 27, are sparking hope across the world on TikTok with their zest for life, positivity, and their deep love for eachother after Boc's recent rare brain cancer diagnosis.
"They say it's rare, but is it?" said Boc regarding his hopeful life expectancy.
Anderson and Boc frequently come across people with the same diagnosis who are living their best lives, giving them hope, which Anderson describes as one of the strongest emotions.
Boc's diagnosis with a rare form of brain cancer happened in Oct. 2022, just months after the couple moved in together.
After a gruelling nine hour surgery, while fully awake, Boc's tumour was removed.
Wasting no time, Boc went back to school for Business Administration at SAIT, hoping to complete his diploma, and eventually a degree to reach his goals after an unimaginable life altering experience.
Shortly after, in early 2024, the tumour returned, Boc was forced to drop out and undergo further treatments.
Due to the nature of his tumour, the doctor wasn't able to remove it without compromising his quality of life.
Desperate for answers, Anderson and Boc discovered that treatment options in Canada are limited. Through an online support group, the couple learned about clinical trials in the U.S.
Trials are a pricey route to take, costing almost $30, 000 for a consultation. As a result, Anderson began posting their story on TikTok with a link to a GoFundMe with hopes to raise $200,000 to pursue the trials.
Family, friends and strangers from all around the world, as far as Australia were inspired and moved by the young couple and the resilience they display.
Anderson and Boc have now been able to raise over $100,000 for the treatment they are seeking.
Anderson, who has been a rock for Boc, says she didn't have any other option than to be strong and that the silver lining is that it's given her hope for humanity. She describes Geoff as someone who has always prioritized the small things in life, even before his diagnosis.
"It's restored our faith in humanity. We have been shown nothing but love."
